The DHCD has funded the Virginia Rent and Mortgage Relief

Program effective June 28, 2020.  Financial Assistance is a one-time payment for Rent/Mortgage arrears beginning April 1, 2020.  Opportunity for renewal is based on the availability of funding, household need, and continued eligibility.   Determine online if you are eligible:  www.dhcd.virginia.gov/eligibility 

Criteria for Rent assistance June 28 thru July 20, 2020

  • Income 50% AMI or below **
  • Must have a loss of income that is Covid-19 related
  • Has a 5 day pay or quit notice or unlawful detainer dated before June 08, 2020
  • Must have a valid lease or other document confirming the landlord-tenant relationship
  • Rent amount that is below 150 percent Fair Market Rent (FMR)

Required documentation

  • Proof of income
  • Copy of valid lease or documentation of the landlord-tenant relationship
  • VA RMRP Household Eligibility certification
  • Landlord affidavit and W9 form
  • Documentation of arrears including any late fees owed
  • RMRP landlord and Renter Household Agreement

 

Criteria for Mortgage assistance

  • Income eligible, 50% AMI through July 20th, 80% AMI after/on July 21st
  • Loss of income due to Covid-19 Pandemic
  • Denied Forbearance from Mortgage lending institution
  • Must have a valid Mortgage statement in the applicant’s name

Required Documentation

  • Proof of income
  • Proof that household had been denied a forbearance or deemed ineligible
  • W-9 form
  • Copy of Mortgage statement in the applicant’s name

**After July 20th, income eligibility will increase to 80% AMI or below
