New River Community Action Giles Emergency Assistance Program recently entered into a formal partnership with the Giles County Christian Service Mission to improve services to the County’s low-income residents in need.

With the closing of the Giles United Fund, the New River Community Action Giles Emergency Assistance Program and the Giles County Christian Service Mission began looking at ways to stretch their existing resources. By combining the two programs, NRCA and the Christian Service Mission will enhance the quality and efficiency of emergency assistance services to Giles County low-income families in need.

To implement this new partnership, NRCA’s Giles Community Service Worker, Donna Thompson, has moved to the Christian Mission Thrift Store located at 516 Wenonah Avenue in Pearisburg. Donna will now administer financial emergency assistance from this location. NRCA and the Mission have combined their food pantries.

The partnership will provide financial emergency assistance, holiday assistance, and oversee the Thrift Store operations and food pantry. With NRCA Giles County Emergency Assistance now housed at the Thrift Store location, clients will have access to a “one-stop shop,” and NRCA and the Mission will ensure the efficient use of public and private resources.
