New River Community Action Head Start is a FREE family-based preschool program that prepares children, engages families and community partners for school readiness. The program serves income-eligible children ages 3 -5. Children must be three by September 30 for upcoming school program year.

Recruiting children for such a life-changing program as Head Start is exciting!

Head Start staff complete applications for children with physical and/or cognitive delays where, without Head Start, the delays could become permanent. Thanks to Head Start, parents will be able to seek employment due to access to childcare. Staff will encourage many parents who had no idea they had the ability to become self-sufficient thanks to support found in Head Start. For some parents, Head Start will simply provide a way to expose their children to a high quality early childhood curriculum designed to help a child’s brain make strong connections for future learning.

Head Start partners with parents and guardians by providing help, resources, and advocacy to meet individual and family goals.

Parents may be referred to their local center for an application. NRCA center contact information can be found at https://newrivercommunityaction.org/head-start-2/

Parents must provide proof of income and child’s birth certificate during application process.
